Civil Liberties Research Paper
Civil Liberties Research PaperThe topics for civil liberties research papers often vary widely from year to year. The main principles and values of America are subject to debate and inquiry, but there are significant discussions and controversial issues concerning the importance of freedom in the context of the nation's history, its current conditions, and the future. While it is true that the history of civil liberties research and the types of topics that can be included in a civil liberties research paper are in constant flux, the basic issues regarding civil liberties seem to be as follows. This is a 'safety valve' for free speech in the early United States. These rights were created by the revolutionary changes of the new nation and are sometimes considered the birthrights of American citizens. The origins of civil liberties are marked by special events that changed the nation. Some of these events include the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, the establi shment of the United States, and the passing of the first federal laws. Individuals and groups, such as Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson, supported some of the rights that we recognize today. However, those who felt that some of these rights were not protected could petition the government for them.Rights were not created equally, however. An example of this is the way that important people with important jobs were given more protection than the common people. There were many instances in which these privileged individuals or groups were accused of committing immoral or otherwise illegal acts. The freedom of speech was one of the most contentious of the civil liberties issues that were brought to light by the revolution. When it came to specific topics, such as religion, religion was a topic that was particularly complex. Although religion was a sensitive subject for many Americans, the religious liberty question was not among the issues that directly affected liberty in America. There was also some controversy concerning the basic question of the nature of the freedoms protected by the Constitution. For example, was it the government or was it the people that held the liberty to act? Since the founding fathers were aware of the dangers of tyranny and even tyranny by a tyrannical government, they created the structure that protects our rights. The power to make laws that would protect individual liberty was passed in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution.Civil liberties were considered fundamental rights. Since the United States was founded upon the Constitution, it was believed that the rights of Americans would be upheld. One of the primary reasons that these rights were upheld is that these rights were considered basic civil rights. A case that occurred during the times of the founding states that while an individual had no such right to liberty, the government could legally arrest a person for a crime committed if it was necessary to apprehend that individual. The debates that were directed toward a legal structure were considered civil liberties. It was believed that the government could impose restrictions on the freedom of speech as well as the press. As a result, these were used as the foundation for the separation of powers.
